Dear members,This email is to inform you of our monthly meeting in March. Please join us for the next PKSA meeting, which will take place Friday, March 30. Dr. Jongho Lee, Assistant Professor at UPENN, will give a talk on his research. See below for the abstract of the talk. Refreshments will be served. Magnetic resonance imaging of novel contrast

Magnetic susceptibility imaging has been long known to provide rich information about brain structure and function. Magnetic susceptibility forms the basis of both functional MRI (measuring brain function) and MR venography (visualizing veins), based on the blood oxygenation level dependence (BOLD) effect. These established techniques have had an enormous impact on clinical and basic neuroscience. In recent years, however, the evolution to higher field strengths (7T and higher) has prompted a renaissance in susceptibility-based imaging techniques.
Beyond the cerebro-vasculature, magnetic susceptibility is now understood to reflect iron content, myelination and even white matter fiber geometry. In this presentation, I will primarily focus on the contrast sources of magnetic susceptibility imaging. A brief introduction of MRI and MRI research will be given at the beginning of the talk to provide basic understanding of MRI.
