ABOUT NEBS

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the New England Bioscience Society Inc. As the 27th president, I am honored to introduce you to NEBS. NEBS represents Korean scientists in the biological and biomedical sciences working in New England and Pennsylvania; its members consist mainly of young postdoctoral trainees and graduate students. Since it was established in 1984, more than 2000 scientists and clinicians have actively participated in NEBS, and currently there are about 500 registered members from virtually all fields of bioscience. NEBS is the most reputable and symbolic organization outside of Korea that networks young biologists of Korean heritage.

To enhance networking among members and encourage scientific activities, NEBS holds a regular scientific meeting on the last Thursday of every month and an annual research conference in May. In addition, NEBS supports its numerous affiliates - BKBS (Brandeis Korean Bioscience Society), BSCRC (Boston Stem Cell Research Club), HMS WJC (Harvard Medical School Weekly Journal Club), KOPOC (Korean Postdoc Club at MIT-BBRI), PKSA (Pennsylvania Korean Scientist Association), and YKBS (Yale Korean Bioscience Society) - in their own scientific meetings and networking activities. As a result of NEBS's continuous activities, we maintain solid relationships with many alumni who are now prominent scientists in the United States and Korea. NEBS also connects scientists in the two countries and strongly encourages scientific cooperation, including our collaboration with BRIC and the Interdisciplinary Bio Central (IBC) Journal.

Finally, we deeply appreciate the generous support of our sponsors, which allows us to maintain a leading role as scientists of Korean heritage. I would like to express my gratitude to all staff members who have volunteered to assist NEBS this year.

안녕하세요

뉴잉글랜드 생명과학협회 (New England Bioscience Society Inc.) 27대 회장 박진아입니다.

NEBS는 보스턴을 중심으로 뉴잉글랜드와 펜실베니아 지역의 한인 생명 과학자들로 구성된 단체입니다. 1984년 설립된 이후 2000 여명의 회원들이 활동을 해왔고 현재 약 500정도의 정규 회원 또는 alumni와 online회원들이 활동하고 있습니다.

매월 마지막 주 목요일 monthly meeting과 매년 5월초annual conference를 통하여 회원들간 정보교류 및 회원들의 연구와 협력을 증진시키고 있습니다. NEBS의 협력단체로 BKBS (Brandeis Korean Bioscience Society), BSCRC (Boston Stem Cell Research Club), HMS WJC (Harvard Medical School Weekly Journal Club), KOPOC (Korean Postdoc Club at MIT-BBRI), PKSA (Pennsylvania Korean Scientist Association), 그리고 YKBS (Yale Korean Bioscience Society) 등의 한인 생명과학자 모임이 있으며, NEBS는 이들 단체들의 원할한 활동을 위한 지원을 하고있습니다.

많은 NEBS alumni 분들께서 한국과 미국내에서 활발한 연구를 활동을 하고 계시고, NEBS는 한, 미 양국에서 활동하고 있는 과학자들의 협력 증진을 위한 가교로서의 노력을 지속하고 있습니다. 이러한 노력의 일환으로 현재는BRIC, Interdisciplinary Bio Central (IBC) Journal과의 협력관계를 유지하고 있습니다.

끝으로, NEBS의 활발한 활동을 지원해주시고 항상 관심과 격려는 아끼지 않는 후원단체 및 개인분들께 깊은 감사를 드립니다. 또한 저를 도와서 2009-2010 NEBS를 이끌어주시는 스탭여러분들께도 다시한번 감사드립니다.
